The government of Graubünden commissions the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft with the establishment and management of a special professorship. The government commissions the University of Applied Sciences Chur to set up and operate the Center for Data Analytics, Visualization and Simulation (DAViS) from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2024. To this end, a special professorship for the profile field «Computational Science» will be introduced at the HTW. A maximum cantonal contribution of CHF 3.6 million will be set for the six-year duration of the project. The annual budget is subject to approval by the Grand Council.
»Computational Science» supplements traditional research methods with the aid of computer simulations and the analysis of large databases. The HTW Chur, in collaboration with the Swiss Institute for Allergy and Asthma Research and other research institutes, has developed a concept for a DAViS centre in this area. The special professorship with the HTW Chur as «Leading House» should enable the establishment of this centre and provide cross-sectional services for the benefit of the regional economy, industry and tourism. With this range of tasks, the planned centre will become a driver for digitisation efforts in the canton.
