COURSE Publishing research results is an essential part of the scientific process. Published papers influence career opportunities for scientists and help in obtaining funding for research. Well-structured and well written manuscripts contribute directly to improved acceptance rates at journals and ultimately success in science.
OUTLINE The seminar “Scientific Writing” covers all aspects of writing, submitting, reviewing and publishing your scientific manuscript.
• Participants will be equipped with a framework to prepare manuscripts more efficiently and effectively.
• They will become familiar with writing techniques to improve their text.
• They will be prepared to interact with editors and deal with reviewers’ comments.
• Participants will have identified ways to increase the impact of their research.

Topics of this two-day seminar with many writing exercises include:
• The planning stage: structure and focus
• Preparing the sections of a manuscript
• Tips for professional writing
• Title and abstract
• Publication strategy
• Increasing your impact
TARGET AUDIENCEPhD students and postdocs will be prioritized, however this workshop is open to researchers of all stages from member institutions of Academia Raetica. External applicants welcome.

CREDIT POINTSThe workload will be approximately 16 hours. Please check with your su­pervisor at your university, if the course counts towards ECTS.

COSTThe course fee is CHF 150 (CHF 250 for participants from non-member institutions) for the entire course. The amount is payable ten days prior to the course. You will receive an invoice and our bank details in due time.

About the Trainer
Dr. Tobias Maier holds a doctorate in biochemistry and has gained more than 10 years of research experience at internationally leading institutes. His scientific articles have been published in “Science and Cell”. Since 2008, he has also published more than 450 articles on his blog “WeiterGen” published at “ScienceBlogs”. Tobias Maier has several years of experience as a freelance trainer for courses specifically for scientists. Since 2015 he is a lecturer at NaWik and conducts social media seminars and scientific writing seminars.
